Hi there again. I’m sorry this 2nd part took a bit longer to arrive than it should have. I know you fellas have been bursting with anticipation, but sometime such delays are inevitable. Meanwhile, I was in restrospect perhaps a little too hopeful for a little contribution from the rest of the crew in between my posts, but I guess they have yet to overcome their affection for inactivity. Hopefully, they’d be able to come to terms with dealing with this unfortunate malaise sooner rather than later.

And the Oscar for the most annoying film goes to…

Anyway, I would like to take this opportunity now to rant about the latest Guy Ritchie film that robbed 2 hours of my life. 2 hours of my life which I will never get back. 2 hours of my life which I couldn’t have expended in a more unproductive and unfulfilling manner. About a decade ago, Ritchie established himself as one of the best up and coming directors with Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels, a British crime caper which was a potent mix of biting dark humour, sharp cinematography (which has come to characterise Ritchie’s films), and a dynamic cast revolving around a motley crew of low lives. The film though good is hardly a classic, but showed flashes of genius and great promise for the potential Ritchie had. Then few years after, Ritchie directed Snatch which turns out to be almost a carbon copy of his previous effort, except it has Brad Pitt playing a gypsy who mumbles with an accent no one understands. Though watching the film was like watching Lock Stock with a slightly varied cast, it was still entertaining even if not completely satisfying. But Ritchie failed to step it up from his previous effort, and still remained a director who fell short of achieving his potential which was disappointing. I will not venture to comment on his 3rd feature film since I did not watch it myself. But it was by all accounts not a very good film. 🙂

So anyway, I will now proceed on to describe my thoughts on Revolver, Guy Ritchie’s attempt at making a masterpiece which stars Jason Statham and Ray Liotta. I have seen many bad films. Some of them are mildly entertaining at the least (see Pirates Of The Carribean 2). Then there those which are so bad they are good…err in a bad way, or simply bad in a good way. (see Plan 9 from Outer space which is a cult classic) Then there are the ones which are just downright annoying. And that’s exactly the category of bad Revolver belongs to…the woefully annoying. Annoying because it’s a Guy Ritchie film and it fails to match the hype and expectations. Annoying because it has Jason Statham and Ray Liotta and you would be hard pressed to think of worse films they had been in. Annoying because the director tries being clever with symbolisms and metaphors but only manages to deliver a mess that is hard to make any sense of. And lastly, it’s annoying simply because much of the film was grating to the senses, visually, aurally and intellectually. At the end of the film, if you could even call it that, I thought to myself ‘FUCK YOU GUY RITCHIE! FUCK YOU FOR WASTING 2 HOURS OF MY LIFE’.
